Saugerties Police Chief Joe Sinagra has been placed on paid administrative leave.

SAUGERTIES – A 26-year-old motorcyclist from Accord who was riding with a group of friends through Saugerties just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, was charged with driving while intoxicated after he lost control of his 2005 Harley Davidson, ran off Route 32A, and crashed into a Honda CRV in a private driveway.

Branden Gates sustained minor injuries but both vehicles received extensive damage.

The other riders in the group fled before police arrived.

Gates was evaluated and determined to be intoxicated but refused to submit to a chemical test. He was also charged with that offense.

He was arraigned in Saugerties Town Justice Court where his driver’s license was suspended and he was released on his own recognizance pending future court action.
