Elderly man dies in Ulster house fire

TOWN OF OLIVE – An 85-year-old Town of Olive man died early Saturday from injuries he sustained in a house fire.

The fire, on Route 28A in the Town of Olive, was called in around 1:07 a.m. Firefighters from several departments responded.

The victim, who was believed to live alone, was located inside, removed and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control Fire Investigation Unit, the Ulster County Arson Task Force and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Team, but authorities said it does not appear suspicious in nature.

Assisting at the scene were fire departments from West Hurley, Olive, Woodstock, Centerville, and Ulster Hose, as well as Mobile Life Support Services advanced life support services members.
