POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie DPW employees have striped a new practice football field at Eastman Park in advance of new recreation programming in the city.  Poughkeepsie Youth Football will be practicing at the underutilized field behind the former YMCA.

Rolison said “Brian Laffin, our superintendent of Parks & Recreation has received more requests by groups to use this park than the city has received in the past decade. We are making an effort to improve the programs currently in place while also pursuing new ones.”

Laffin said the mayor and city officials “have stressed the need for more opportunities for recreation in our parks, and, as we are starting to rebound from the pandemic, we are responding with the assistance of several grants as well as the assistance of the 35 Montgomery Street Coalition.  Children and adults alike will be pleased with the improvements.”

In addition to the youth football, Eastman Park will be used this year for Adult Kickball, Drop-in Youth Soccer, and the 35 Montgomery Street Coalition programming.  Information on recreation opportunities can be found here or by emailing Laffin at BLaffin@cityofpoughkeepsie.com.
