ARLINGTON – The fire that claimed the life of a 60-year-old man in a second-floor apartment at 2740 South Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie on Saturday evening is believed to have started in the kitchen and appears to be related to cooking, Arlington Fire Chief William Steenbergh said Monday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire investigators, but is not considered suspicious, he said.
The name of the victim has not been made public.
The two-alarm fire broke out around 6:35 p.m. on April 3.
The victim was found at the top of the stairs on the second floor, unconscious, barely breathing, and with extensive burns.
He was rushed to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
