Woman killed in crash with wrong-way driver

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A 30-year-old Wappingers Falls woman, who was a passenger in a car, died after their vehicle was struck head on by a wrong-way driver on Route 9 – South Road – in front of the 9 Mall Plaza.

Poughkeepsie Town Police said just before 6 p.m. Sunday, an 83-year-old Wappingers Falls man was driving a 2008 Subaru SUV southbound in the northbound lane of Route 9 when he collided with a 2019 Nissan Sentra driven by a 28-year-old Wappingers Falls man.

The female passenger in the Nissan sustained serious injuries and was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center where she died, police said.

Police have not released the named of he people involved in the crash.

Town Police were assisted at the scene by New Hamburg Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services.

The investigation is ongoing and town police are asking any witnesses to contact their Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.
