ARLINGTON – The fire in the Town of Poughkeepsie on Saturday evening claimed one life.

The resident of the apartment that was on fire Saturday evening has succumbed to his injuries.

The 60-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after being brought to MidHudson Regional Hospital on Saturday evening, authorities said.

Arlington firefighters had rescued the unconscious man from his burning apartment on Saturday. Suffering from smoke inhalation and severe burns, medics from Mobile Life attempted to stabilize him while waiting for a medical helicopter.

While waiting, the man went into cardiac arrest. Mobile Life medics cancelled the helicopter and rushed the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
