SUFFERN – The state has finally agreed to establish a mass vaccination site in Rockland County.
County and local officials have been pleading with the state to approve such a site to provide mass COVID-19 vaccine distribution to residents in a county that has been hard hit by the pandemic.
The site, to be held at Rockland Community College’s Eugene Levy Fieldhouse, is expected to open Thursday, April 1.
Beginning March 30 at 8 a.m., New Yorkers will be able to schedule appointments by utilizing the state’s “Am I Eligible” website or by calling the state’s COVID-19 vaccination hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-3829).
Hours of operation of the site will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
“The opening of Rockland Community College as a mass vaccination site will have an immediate impact on our community as we continue to grapple with one of the highest infection rates in New York State,” said County Executive Ed Day.
“We are making progress in our battle against this disease and with the increased availability of vaccine through this site we expect a significant benefit to local residents,” he said. “I encourage Rocklanders to take advantage of this opportunity to get vaccinated right here in their home county; we spent months fi9ghting for this site and now we must put it to use.”
