NEW CITY – A West Haverstraw man has been indicted by a Rockland County grand jury on a murder charge stemming from a March 6 stabbing death of a Nanuet man at the Oiso Restaurant in Blauvelt.

Darin Peterson, 27, of West Haverstraw was charged with murder, assault and possession of a weapon.

He turned himself in to the Orangetown Police Department on March 16.

The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on March 6 when officers responded to 587 Route 303 in Blauvelt for a report of shots fired. At the same time, police also received a report that two people, who had been stabbed, had come to the emergency room of Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

One of the victims, Carneggio Grant, 30, of Nanuet, was transferred to Westchester Medical Center where he died. The other male victim is recovering from his injuries.

“This senseless act of violence left a young man dead and another injured,” said District Attorney Thomas Walsh II. “We cannot forget the victims’ families during these difficult times.”

Walsh said Executive Assistant DA Stephen Moore, who is prosecuting the case, “will be seeking justice on behalf of the Grant family and people of Rockland County.”
