POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie’s Police Reform & Modernization Collaborative Plan has received high marks from the John F. Finn Institute for Public Safety in Albany.  The review of the plan was requested by Mayor Rob Rolison and Police Chief Tom Pape.

The institute, established in 2007, works with criminal justice agencies to evaluate their operations and identify solutions and effective innovations. The institute also conducts research on criminal justice strategies, programs, and practices to deepen its understanding of best practices and research in the field of law enforcement.

“lt is clear that the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department made earnest and well-informed efforts to adopt and implement best practices in policing prior to the issuance of Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203, and it appears poised to take further steps to build public trust and promote racial equity” said Dr. Robert Worden, Director of the institute.

The institute’s recommendations point to the City of Poughkeepsie’s continued efforts to reform-minded policies, and Mayor Rolison said both the city’s plan and The Finn review will be utilized during implementation to improve policing strategies and strengthen community relations.
