MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Legislator Luis Alvarez has filed a lawsuit against Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty alleging character assassination.
Doherty maintains Alvarez used vulgarity when talking to a female county employee, something the accuser’s attorney, Michael Sussman, said he denies.
“It is categorically false. It was stated by Mr. Doherty in our view, to taint and assassinate Mr. Alvarez’s character. It is not the kind of attribution which appropriate but is intended to belittle Mr. Alvarez and embarrass him,” Sussman said.
Doherty had no comment about the lawsuit.
Alvarez was found guilty by the county board of ethics of inappropriate behavior but said it had no evidence in the record that he used that profanity.
