Goshen Mayor Nuzzolese dies

GOSHEN – Village Mayor Michael Nuzzolese of Goshen died Saturday. He was 66.

Prior to serving as mayor, he was a member of the village board. Until his retirement, he was superintendent of public works for the village.

Nuzzolese was an active member of the Goshen community. He was a member of the chamber of commerce, the Italian American Club, he volunteered at the food pantry and was voted Person of the Year by the Goshen Chamber in 2001.

He was an active member of the Dikeman Engine and Hose Company #3 for 42 years and served as a lieutenant and then an extrication officer for many years.

In 2019 he was awarded the Chief’s Honors for his many years of service.

He was also an avid bike rider with the Dark Side Riders.

“I enjoyed working with Mike, who was a sweet and kind person. Mike will be missed for his hard work, compassion and commitment to the residents of Goshen. My thoughts and prayers are with his family,” said Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus.

State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt said Nuzzolese “dedicated his life to the village and will be sorely missed by those who knew him.”

He is survived by his wife, Alice, and his mother, Josephine; children Dayle, Morgan, Jeremy and his wife; and two grandchildren; and two sisters and their spouses.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 18 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Goshen.
