WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives, in a bipartisan vote, has passed the VA Vaccine Act, which empowers the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to offer COVID-19 vaccines to all veterans and their caregivers.

The measure must now go before the Senate for its approval before heading to the President’s desk.

The measure will expand the VA’s authority to provide vaccine to veterans not currently enrolled in VA’s healthcare system, including vets without compensable service-connected disabilities and vets who have incomes above a certain threshold; caregivers of veterans who are enrolled in various VA home-based and long-term care programs; and vets living abroad who rely on the Foreign Medical Program.

“This common-sense bipartisan legislation would get shots in more veterans’ arms,” said Congressman Antonio Delgado (D, NY-19).

“Making vaccinations more accessible for veterans in our community is critically important and the VA VACCINE Act takes a tremendous step forward in assisting that effort,” said Dutchess County Veterans Affairs Director Adam Roche.
