WAWARSING – State Police arrested a Town of Wallkill man on Sunday after he fled a trooper on Route 52 in Wawarsing at speeds of 120 miles per hour.

At around 5 p.m., the officer spotted the vehicle, a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, driving east on Roue 52 in violation of several vehicle and traffic laws.

The driver, later identified as Michael Wright, 32, failed to comply and sped off. The trooper discontinued the chase for safety reasons, but as he remained on patrol of the area, he spotted the same vehicle crashed into a guard rail.

Ulster County deputy sheriffs were already on the scene.

A search of the vehicle yielded 313 grams of marijuana and further investigation determined Wright was driving with a suspended license.

He was charged with criminal possession of marijuana as a felony, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, all misdemeanors.

Wright was also issued 14 tickets.

He was given an appearance ticket returnable to Wawarsing Town Court, but troopers learned he was in violation of parole and was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
