YONKERS – Yonkers Police have made an arrest in Friday’s shooting on Warburton Avenue that claimed the life of a man.  The suspect was arrested in Mount Vernon just over an hour after the shooting.

On Friday, March 5th, just before 9 p.m. at 157 Warburton Avenue, police say that the victim was visiting a female friend when the suspect arrived, got into an altercation with the victim, and shot him several times. The victim, identified as Shaun Hutchinson, a 41-year-old resident of Easton, Pennsylvania. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that the suspect fled immediately after the homicide in a white BMW sedan. The shooter was identified as 35-year-old Alexis Rose with an address on Hill Avenue in the Bronx. Yonkers Police broadcast Rose’s information and vehicle description to officers in Yonkers and surrounding jurisdictions.

Within an hour of the incident, Mount Vernon Police located the suspect’s car in their city. The suspect lives in the Bronx, several blocks away from where the car was located.

Yonkers Police units conducted a surveillance of the area, and shortly thereafter the suspect was observed attempting to leave in his vehicle. Officers initiated a felony car stop, during which time the suspect vehicle struck an unmarked Yonkers Police vehicle in an attempt to flee before he was taken into custody without further incident. There were no reported injuries to any parties.

Rose was arrested and charged with one count of murder, was arraigned in Yonkers City Court and is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

“There is no more heinous an act than the murder of a human being – multiple lives are destroyed in the aftermath, and in this case, a child is left without a father,” said Police Commissioner John Mueller. “It is our charge that we deliver those who perpetrate the ultimate violence into the Criminal Justice System where they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and bring justice for the victim’s family.”
