VA cop, killed in line of duty, returned home for burial in Orange County

WALDEN – New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, Boy Scouts and members of the community, saluted as a funeral procession traveled from Pennsylvania into western Orange County and to Walden on Saturday for a private funeral and burial for Newburgh native Dominic Winum.

The Stanley, Virginia police officer was killed in the line of duty while conducting a traffic stop on February 26.

On Friday, a motorcade led by motorcycle officers, escorted Winum’s body to Walden for a private service and burial for his many family members who still live in the area.

The procession traveled east on I-84 and when it reached Walden, Boy Scouts holding American flags lined Route 208 as the Walden Fire Department hung a giant American flag across the road as everyone saluted as the hearse drove by.
