NEWBURGH – South Middle School in the Enlarged Newburgh City School District will be returning to remote teaching today (Friday), according to a memo from Superintendent Roberto Padilla to board of education members and teachers.

“Given the amount of teachers who now have to quarantine, we will put students at South on a remote day tomorrow,” Padilla wrote.

“As a district, we have been doing so well not having to move students to remote instruction because everyone has followed the protocol,” he wrote in a memo obtained by Mid-Hudson News.

“However, when people do not follow the required protocols, this happens. Teachers were not authorized to meet together,” the superintendent said.

One source said four teachers at South Middle School have tested positive, eight others were exposed to the coronavirus, and four to six others were afraid to admit they were exposed to positive teachers and continued to work.
