Two killed in Wappingers Falls crash

WAPPINGERS FALLS – A 48-year-old woman and a one-year-old baby were killed in Monday afternoon’s two-car crash on Route 9 near New Hackensack Road in Wappingers Falls.

State Police said the initial investigation revealed a 2017 Honda CRV, driven by Loraine Baker, 48, of Poughkeepsie, was southbound on Route 9 and rear-ended a southbound 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer.

Baker was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where she died from her injuries.

The driver of the Trail Blazer, Rene Luis Ramirez, 37, of Poughkeepsie, and her passengers, Nelvis Luis Cruz, 23, Esteban Luis Luis, four, and one-year-old Emilio Luis Luis, were all transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital with serious injuries.  Emilio Luis Luis succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

State Route 9 was closed in both directions from approximately 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
