SHANDAKEN – State DEC forest rangers rescued a 52-year-old New York City woman after she fell 20 feet down an embankment and dislocated her left shoulder.

The hiker was attempting a two-mile loop on the Menla Resort property in the Town of Shandaken shortly after noon last Saturday when she fell.

A member of her party hiked down to the resort and placed a call for help.

Because of the heavy snowpack, it took two hours for rangers to get to her, but once they secured her arm, she was assisted back.

The hiker made it off the trail at 5:15 p.m., was treated by Shandaken paramedics, and transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.
