HUDSON – Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett announced on Monday that he will seek a third term in the November election.

The Republican law enforcement official will face a challenge from Democrat Don Krapf, a 23-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.

“Since day one, serving as Columbia County’s sheriff, I’ve focused on ensuring our streets are safe and our most vulnerable populations adequately protected and served,” said Bartlett.

He said he has delivered the latest tools and technologies so the department can protect and serve to the best of their ability, have initiated a Vivitrol program in the jail to assist addicts with recovery upon release, and have taken a leading role in the fight against COVID-19 in the county.

Krapf, a sergeant in the sheriff’s office, said he has “observed missed opportunities for the [sheriff’s] office to proactively move in the direction of modern policing.”
