KINGSTON – The state will be holding a civil service test on May 15 in both English and Spanish for people looking to enter the field of law enforcement.

Local municipalities will be offering the test to have a current list of qualifying candidates.

In Kingston, Chief Egidio Tinto does not have any immediate slots available, but he is planning ahead.

“We don’t currently have any openings, but we anticipate with some retirements with some retirements coming up that we are looking at possibly six positions within the next year-and-a-half,” he said. “For an agency our size, we have 71 officers, it is almost 10 percent. That’s a large opening to have.”

Tests are in two parts – written and physical agility.

Police departments are often looking for bilingual officers given that the largest growing population in many communities is Spanish speaking.
