GOSHEN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler has launched his Rebound Program designed to assist people with old criminal convictions to get on with their lives by having their records sealed from public scrutiny.

Under the program, Hoovler will assist people in obtaining and filing in court the appropriate forms to apply for the sealing of certain old convictions.

“The bottom line is when people make mistakes and commit crimes and they basically either served their time or they have done their sentence and a number of years have passed and showed they are deserving, then as district attorney I should be willing to try to help people get their lives back in order. I am ready to do that,” he said.

Low-level felonies and misdemeanors could qualify under the program, but crimes including homicides, sex offenses, violent felonies, and others would not be covered.

Persons would have to be crime-free for at least 10 years, have two or fewer convictions on their criminal records, have no criminal cases currently pending, and be able to demonstrate to the court that sealing is appropriate.
