BUCHANAN – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Gerond George as the new senior resident inspector at the Indian Point Unit 3 nuclear power plant in Buchanan.

George’s prior assignment was as a senior reactor inspector at the NRC Region IV office in Arlington, Texas. He joined the agency in June 2003 as a reactor inspector in the Region IV office.

George holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering from the Oklahoma State University-Stillwater. He also earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas-Arlington.

“We’re pleased to have an inspector with Mr. George’s experience and capabilities on-site at Indian Point as Unit 3 goes through this important period during which it will prepare for permanent cessation of operations,” said NRC Region I Administrator David Lew.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations. They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects.

George joins resident inspector Eben Allen at the Indian Point facility.
