ALBANY – A package of bills sponsored by Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) is aimed at making nursing homes and long-term care facilities safer for residents.

The Hudson Valley lawmaker said the pandemic made it apparent that those facilities were “especially vulnerable and severely ill-equipped” to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.

“The first bill would create a more robust system of inspections specific to infection control and those facilities that don’t pass these audits that would be set up, they would face significant consequences up to revocation or suspension of their nursing home license,” he said.

The measures have passed in the Senate Health Committee.
