In accordance with the governor’s executive order, the advisory panel will present recommendations to the county legislature, which must adopt the plan, then signed by the county executive and transmitted to the state by April 1.

The Orange County advisory panel is tasked with developing a plan to improve the deployments, strategies, policies, procedures, and practices of the sheriff’s office.

The plan will also focus on promoting community engagement to foster trust, fairness, and legitimacy, and to address any racial bias and disproportionate policing of communities of color.

The advisory panel represents county government, social services agencies, community service leaders, clergy and education leaders, and not for profit agencies.
