NEWBURGH – Last week’s storm dropped snow so rapidly that Newburgh city plow crews could not keep up with it at times.

Residents complained to the city council Monday night that they were ticketed for parking on the wrong side of the street, but had no choice because the correct side had not been plowed yet.

Mayor Torrance Harvey took a strong stand on the issue. “This city council cannot and will not, have anything to do with the judgment of that circumstance. We are not the point of authority on those tickets,” he told residents during the virtual council session.

He told them that the council sets policy but does not issue tickets. He advised disgruntled residents to take up individual parking tickets with the city court.
