KINGSTON – Mayor Steven Noble has signed into law a resolution that requires all new housing developments of five or more units in the City of Kingston to provide at least 10 percent of the total as affordable housing.

Noble said there is “an urgent and dire need” for affordable housing in the city.

“It will continue to get more workforce housing into a housing market while also adding more additional market-units to be able to reduce the overall supply and demand issue that has been raising prices here in our community, especially in the area of apartments,” he said.

The mayor had issued an executive order requiring the affordable housing units and now, the common council voted to codify it.
