WASHINGTON – The Middletown Post Office on Fulton Street in the city is headed for a name change.  Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) has introduced legislation to honor the late House member who represented the Hudson Valley for 30 years.

The Senate approved the naming in 2019.

Gilman died in December 2016.

While in Congress, he was named chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“Ben Gilman lived a life dedicated to service – through his 30-year career representing the Middletown area in Congress and his time serving our country in World War II,” said Maloney. “His devotion to the Hudson Valley is his lasting legacy.”

Prior to serving in Washington, Gilman was a state assemblyman.

Gilman, who was born in Poughkeepsie, was 94 at the time of his death.
