MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty had hoped lawmakers would select a company to manage the county-owned Care Center at Sunset Lake at their Thursday session, but the decision was tabled.

Three finalist companies are under consideration – Infinite Care Management, The Grand Healthcare System, and VestraCare/The McGuire Group/Absolut.

Legislators did not see any urgency to take action immediately and wanted to further vet the candidates.

Doherty also wanted lawmakers to terminate the current agreement with the Sullivan County Visitors Association, the county’s contract tourism agency, so that a new deal could be reached. That was put off as negotiations take place.

Doherty’s concern is that the agency is being run like a chamber of commerce.

“The whole county should be promoted. Don’t tell me you are promoting Sullivan County Catskills and then you leave people off because they are not your members. That’s not what your contract says,” he maintained.

The chairman is also concerned that almost 44 percent of the rooms being rented in the county are at Airbnb’s, but he said only those that are members of the visitors association are promoted.
