GOSHEN – A consultant’s study says the best location to build a freestanding Orange County medical examiner’s facility is on the grounds of the county Emergency Services Center in Goshen.

The medical examiner’s office has been conducting its autopsies in mobile trailers behind the 911 center.

County Deputy Health Commission Chris Ericson told the Physical Services Committee of the county legislature on Monday that building on the county property there is the best choice.

“Because it is centrally located, because it is secure; there is surveillance around the place all the time. Ease of access right off 17, fairly close to I-84, close to a major hospital,” he said.

The county has hired a company to design the facility and Ericson said construction could begin in a year from now.
