MID-HUDSON – Long-time Wallkill Town police officer Barry Weissman died Saturday, town officials announced.
A statement on the department’s Facebook page said he served town residents for decades. “During his tenure with the town, he served as a police officer and a sergeant. He was committed to making our community a safe place.”
Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized.
Meanwhile, Haverstraw Town Police Chief Peter Murphy announced that retired Police Officer Richard Hamilton has died.
He was appointed to the department as the only part-time officer in 1967. He graduated from the Rockland County Police Academy in 1976. He served the town until his retirement in 1993.
He continued his career in law enforcement as a court officer in the Village of West Haverstraw Court from 1996 to 2007 and Town of Haverstraw Court from 1996 to 2012.
He was a security watchman for the Town of Haverstraw Parks and Recreation from 2012 to 2021.
