POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office has announced upgraded charges against a man arrested for a machete attack in Poughkeepsie earlier this month.

On the afternoon of January 11, city police responded to multiple reports of a man attacking another with a machete.

When police arrived, they encountered a man, now identified as Otis McNeil Elvy, still attacking the victim.

Police were able to take Elvy into custody at the scene and transport him to headquarters for processing.  This past week, Elvy was arraigned on the additional charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

“This is a continuing investigation,” noted Senior Assistant District Attorney Andrea Long, who is tasked with prosecuting the case.
