MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Legislature will hold a special meeting on Thursday to address ethics charges against one of its own – Legislator Luis Alvarez.

District 6 Legislator Luis Alvarez has been brought up on county ethics charges for cursing at a female county employee.

He maintained he was upset and concerned about the health and wellbeing of his wife when she was at the Care Center at Sunset Lake.

“The sexist and demeaning manner in which Legislator Alvarez has conducted himself will not be tolerated by this Legislature or the good people who work for the County of Sullivan,” said Chairman Rob Doherty.

He said Alvarez was “deliberately downplaying this serious offense.”

Doherty said it was “completely indefensible” for Alvarez to call a female county employee “a ‘c—‘ (among other disgusting names he spewed at her). The fact that he’s talking about this at all, without offering any apology or remorse, is clear evidence that Legislator Alvarez is concerned only with his self-interest.”
