Parolee arrested in Newburgh on assault, drug charges

NEWBURGH – A City of Newburgh man, who is on parole, has been arrested and charged with assault and drug possession charges.

Newburgh Police were patrolling the Broadway and Lutheran Street corridor around 7:40 p.m. on Friday, January 22 in response to several complaints from residents about open air drug trafficking.

They observed a narcotics transaction initiated by a tall black man wearing a tan jacket. As they approached the man, later identified as Connie Boykin, 49, he attempted to flee but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

As he ran, Boykin discarded a plastic bag with a rock-like substance that field tested for cocaine and weighed some 6.32 grams.

During the foot pursuit an officer sustained a leg injury and was transported to a hospital for medical attention.

Boykin was charged with assault, two counts of drug possession and a violation of parole. He was being held pending arraignment.
