RED HOOK – A 29-year-old Rhinebeck man has been accused of Aggravated DWI, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, and Reckless Driving after an incident on Thursday night in Red Hook.

Red Hook police say that at 10:45 pm Thursday, an officer observed a vehicle traveling south on South Broadway (Route 9) being operated in an erratic manner.  When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the operator failed to comply and accelerated away from the cop.

The vehicle attempted to elude the police throughout the Village of Red Hook before fleeing southbound on State Route 9 towards Rhinebeck at speeds in excess of 90 MPH. The driver then fled to his residence on Route 9 in Rhinebeck where he was taken into custody without incident.

The driver, identified as Ryan Nichols, subsequently provided police with a breath test which resulted in a .23% blood alcohol content, nearly three times the legal limit.
In addition to the Misdemeanor charges, Nichols was cited for several traffic infractions, processed, and released on tickets to appear in the Village of Red Hook Court at a later date.

The Red Hook Police were assisted by the New York State Police and Dutchess County Sheriffs Office.
