Hotel construction ready to resume in Town of Wallkill

TOWN OF WALLKILL – A hotel/motel room tax, recently approved in Albany, could bring in millions for the Town of Wallkill, which like all other municipalities is facing financial problems because of the pandemic.

In 2020, three new hotels opened in Wallkill and a fourth one is in the final stage of construction, noted Town Supervisor Frank Dan Dento III.

“The initial studies showed anywhere between $1.2 and $1.7 million. My feeling is if we do get the two additional hotels that were in conversation prior to ’20, that number could go as high as $2 million, so it is not anything to shake a stick at, that is for sure,” he said.

One additional hotel, a LaQuinta, is nearing completion on the site of a former Howard Johnson’s motel.
