NEW WINDSOR – In the wake of last week’s attack on the US Capitol Building, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) said Monday that Republican President Donald Trump must go immediately.

Maloney said it was Trump who instigated the riot on democracy.

“What happened on Wednesday and what we are learning more every day is that there was there was an organized effort to stage a violent insurrection to overtake the United States Capitol. That is a very serious offense, in fact it was a conspiracy of many different actors and it was incited by a very pernicious lie that the election was stolen. And, that in my mind raises very troubling questions about the capacity of the president to exercise the awesome powers of his office for one more moment,” he said.

Maloney said Trump should resign immediately or the 25th Amendment should remove him from office. At the very least, Maloney said he should be impeached, which the House of Representatives is expected to do on Wednesday.
