KINGSTON – David Donaldson, who served as chairman of the Ulster County Legislature last year, was chosen again to lead in the new year. The vote Monday night was unanimous.

Donaldson reviewed the accomplishments of 2020 and noted it was a year of many challenges, in particular opioid abuse, which has doubled since COVID-19, and the need to address mental health care.

“At the beginning of the executive’s term he called out for cutting opioid related deaths in half. With COVID, the opposite has happened. We were once the model county for delivering mental health care, but over the last decade we have become a county facing serious shortages of care,” he said. “More and more of our constituents are losing their coverage putting them at risk as well as those around us.”

Donaldson said cooperation and working together across the political aisle and with the county administration will move the county forward in a positive direction.
