KINGSTON – Saying President Donald Trump is “unfit for office and poses an existential threat to our democracy, Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan said “he must be removed immediately, whether by invoking of the 25th Amendment or impeachment, or both.

Ryan, a West Point graduate who served in the Army overseas, said that following rioters attacking the US Capitol building, he was thinking about the soldiers “I know personally who gave their lives to protect our democracy. Yesterday’s brazen insurrection at the Capitol was a direct affront to their courage and sacrifice, and to the millions of others who have proudly served.”

The county executive said that “Every single American who believes in the principles outlined in our Constitution and founding documents should be outraged and should demand immediate action.”

Those two actions – invoking the 25th Amendment, or impeachment, are under consideration by top officials in Washington including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
