KINGSTON – A total of 23 inmates out of a population of 178 are COVID-19 positive in the Ulster County Jail. Seven corrections officers remain out as a result of the virus, the sheriff office reported Monday.

Several officers have already returned to duty and the current seven are anticipated to return on various dates over the next several days.

“If we remain on the current trajectory with no further new infections, we estimate we will have no COVID positive inmates by around January 9,” said Det. Lt. Abram Markiewicz, who emphasized the numbers are only estimates and contingent upon no additional new cases.
