POUGHKEEPSIE – A violent home invasion in the City of Poughkeepsie on Saturday night sent one resident to the hospital and has led to the arrest of the suspect who had fled to Hyde Park.

On Saturday night shortly after 11 p.m., a man entered an apartment on Academy Street, armed with a handgun, and attacked the resident.  After a struggle between the resident and the suspect, the invader fled the scene.  The resident required medical attention at a local hospital and will undergo surgery to repair one of the injuries.

Officers and detectives from the City of Poughkeepsie were able to identify the suspect as 31-year-old Tashon Cramartie of Poughkeepsie.  An arrest warrant was prepared for Cramartie. Through the course of the investigation, members of the police department’s Neighborhood Recovery Unit learned that Cramartie was staying in nearby Hyde Park.

On Tuesday, December 29, the unit located Cramartie in a vehicle and performed a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody without a struggle.

Cramartie has been charged with the felonies including burglary in the first degree and assault in the second degree.  He also faces multiple misdemeanor charges. The handgun used in the home invasion was not recovered.
