KINGSTON – The post-holiday coronavirus surge is being felt in Ulster County.

County Executive Patrick Ryan said Tuesday that between the end of October and now, numbers have gone up dramatically.

“The fact that we have had nearly 40 fatalities in the month of December, and we are not even through it yet, is directly attributed to those social gatherings that happened between Halloween and Thanksgiving,” he said.

And Ulster County lost four residents to COVID-19 over Christmas weekend.

Ryan said with New Year’s around the corner, it is extremely important to curb social gatherings and continue to wash hands and wear masks.
