POUGHKEEPSIE – Police officers in Poughkeepsie walk the beat all year round and it is part of the city’s community policing program.

Mayor Rob Rolison they are a good way to stay in contact with the community.

“In a year I have seen the statistics. There are hundreds, a thousand, walking patrols because what they actually do is they get out of their car and that walking or fixed post, however it is to that particular shift, is logged in. So, have a record of every time our officers are on the street outside of their cars,” he said.

Despite an upsurge in street crime this year, the administration hopes the visibility of officers on the street will help curb it.
