ELLENVILLE – A 12-year-old girl acted “with extreme bravery, and without hesitation, or fear, and at great risk to her own safety” as she confronted a man who had broken into her family home in Ellenville on Christmas Eve, Ellenville Police Chief Philip Mattracion said.

At about 6 a.m. on December 24, a man later identified as Sergio Ulysee, 37, of 8 Mill Street in Ellenville had crawled through a front window of apartment E in the same building and went into a back bedroom occupied by two 12-year-old girls in bed.

One of the children was wakened by noise in the room and saw Ulysee standing naked and aroused. She confronted him yelling for him to leave. When the other girl was awakened by the noise, he fled.

The commotion woke a female parent who grabbed a knife and went after the suspect as he ran.

Ellenville Police located Ulysee a short time later while driving a vehicle. The car was stopped and after a brief struggle, he was taken into custody.

He was charged with burglary as a sexually motivated felony and endangering the welfare of a child.

Following arraignment, he was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 property bond.
