POUGHKEEPSIE – Transportation BUILD program funding (Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development) is contained in federal legislation in Washington and that could mean good news for the local area.

Mark DeBald, director of the Dutchess County Transportation Council, said $1 billion has been included for the program.

“That is the program that funds very regionally significant projects across the state. They are very high visibility projects usually with an economic development angle,” he said.

The eligibility requirements of BUILD allow project sponsors at the state and local levels to obtain funding for multi-modal, multi-jurisdictional projects that are more difficult to support through traditional DOT programs.
