Shortly after 7 Wednesday morning, a man was shot in the chest in the parking lot of the Thruway Shopping Center in Walden and a suspect fled.
About a half hour later, a suspect was caught in the Pine Bush area.
The victim was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where he was being treated for a non-life-threatening wound, said Troop F State Police spokesman Trooper Steven Nevel.
Phil Grasso was at the shopping center right after the incident and he expressed frustration over the state of society.
“Whoever this person was who got shot, they have families. They maybe have children, a spouse, and it’s just very, very sad that I believe that this country, even the country, is becoming more disrespectful of human nature,” he said.
The investigation is continuing.
