STORMVILLE – A New York City man was arrested trying to smuggle heroin and suboxone into an inmate at the maximum-security Green Haven Correctional Facility during a visit.

The arrest was announced by the New York State Corrections Officers Police Benevolent Association, the union that represents officers at state prisons.

On Friday, December 11, the man, who was not identified, was being screened in the visitor area of the prison. A K-9 alerted to him for drugs. He was questioned by investigators and admitted he was carrying drugs.

He turned over three balloons that he had hidden inside his pants. One balloon contained 150 sublingual films that tested positive for suboxone. The other two balloons  50 glassine bags of heroin with a weight of 1.5 ounces.

He was charged by State Police with two counts of promoting prison contraband and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

“The reality is, as our members continue to work the front line, putting their health and safety at risk, DOCCS Administration sits idly by and does nothing to stop the attacks on staff or the contraband that continues to flow into prisons.  Yet, four days before Christmas they announce the closure of three prisons. A completely callous and short-sighted action against our members,” said Chris Moreau , NYSCOPBA Mid-Hudson Region vice president.
