MONTICELLO – Monticello elks Lodge #1544 has donated eight Americans flags to the Village of Monticello to be flown outside municipal building.

In 1907, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks became the first fraternal organization to observe Flag Day.

More than 40 years later, President Harry Truman, who was an Elk, signed into law a declaration naming Flag Day as an official national holiday. Every Elks Lodge across the country holds an annual Flag Day service in June.
