SAUGERTIES – The driver and passenger in a car that slid across Route 32 in Saxton just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, were killed when their vehicle collided with another one traveling in the opposite direction.
As a result of the collision, Samantha Kiernan, 47, of Saugerties, a passenger in the Toyota Camry, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Ira Ringel, 59, of Saugerties, was extricated from the car and transported to Health Alliance Broadway Campus in Kingston where he died.
The driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, and a 13-year-old passenger, were transported by ambulance to Health Alliance Hospital Broadway where they were treated for minor injuries.
The Saxton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Saugerties Police detectives are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or was in the area at the time of the crash to call Saugerties Police Detective Division at 845-246-9800.
