Man taken into custody following shots fired

NEWBURGH – Police in the City of Newburgh were holding a suspect pending charges being filed following an incident of shots being fired late Friday night.

Police were alerted to ShotSpotter activations of three rounds fired in the area of 321 Liberty Street at around 10:44 p.m.

A street camera captured the incident showing what appeared to be a suspect taking out a handgun and shooting into the air.

A description of a suspect and the vehicle in which he drove off were dispatched to officers.

The unoccupied car was found on Grand Street with a handgun spotted in plain view inside.

A man matching the description of the suspect was located on Liberty Street. David Jacobs had car keys on him from the suspect car, which was also registered to him, according to police.
