MONTICELLO – By an eight-to-one vote, the Sullivan County Legislature Thursday approved the county’s $235 million, 2021 budget.
The spending plan stays under the state-mandated property tax cap.
Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty said the unappropriated fund balance was not tapped to balance the budget.
“The last legislature came into a surplus and then outspent growth four years in a row. That is something I would like to avoid,” he said.
The budget includes $3 million for road and bridgework in the county, $410,000 to continue the expanded Move Sullivan public transportation service, $200,000 for community organizations, $100,000 to demolish unsafe structures, $130,000 for two towers for the expanded broadband wireless pilot program, and $25,000 for the proposed Callicoon Riverside Park.
